You can build a stationary ground defence.
Upon attack on your planet, it participates automatically in combat. Recycle fields are left in a normal battle depending on the lost structure. The shields leave recycle fields which is based on the resource that was invested in the build of the defence unit (and not the structure, like the rest of the buildings).
After a battle 60% of the lost defence units are recovered. The defender loses 40% of the points (the equivalent of the lost defence units).
When SELFATTACKING after the battle the defence that was hit leaves recycle fields, BUT THERE IS NO RECOVERY, this means that the destruction is 100%.
You have the chance to recycle the available defence or a part of it. When recycling, you will receive 40-60% of the resources that were invested in the production. When recycling your own defence, you will have 100% points drop.
Advantages and disadvantages
Fast built. Regenerates 60% lost structure in combat.
It slows down your economic growth. It is effective until the mid-game. It does not fly and you are a sitting duck for an eager attacker.
